In aid of the Haitian crisis, Action Against Hunger will host a charity screening of critically acclaimed Haiti-based documentary Ghosts of Cité Soleil, which as we described goes “beyond front-line journalism to show the men behind the guns.”
Celeste Hibbert, who is organising the event, said: “As the column inches fade, the survivors of last month’s earthquake in Haiti are still living hand-to-mouth, still displaced, and still mourning their loved ones – they must not be forgotten. Please don’t forget our responsibility.”
The event will be hosted by Mica Paris and Jenni Falconer. Martine McCutcheon, Cerys Matthews, Charlie Brooks, Status Quo, Duran Duran, Boy George, Tazmin Outhwaite and Calum Best will also be attending, and the event has received special donations from Sienna Miller and Ridley Scott.
Singer and actress Mica Paris said of the Carribbean country, already one of the poorest in the world: “The earthquake that hit on January 12 continues to have a devastating impact on Haiti. A long term recovery process is needed, so it is vital generous public support continues.”
Ghosts of Cité Soleil, produced by, and starring Wyclef Jean, will be screened at 2pm on February 26 at The Electric Cinema in Notting Hill Gate. The screening will be followed by a special Q & A, hosted by an aid specialist with over 10 years of experience in humanitarian crisis zones.
The screening costs £15 as a minimum donation. All proceeds will go straight to the Haiti appeal, and includes popcorn and a drink. To purchase tickets for the screening or make a donation visit www.justgiving.com/haitiscreening.
