A new exhibition at Proud Galleries in Camden present a portrait of the members of the legend-born ‘27 Club’, the group of rockers who all died prematurely at the age of 27.
The exhibition presents a collection of images taken by several renowned rock photographers (including the likes of Elliott Landy, the late Joe Sia and Phil Townsend) and focuses on the five most legendary members, out of more than 30 musicians who’s untimely obituaries marked their entry into ‘the Club’. The chosen five for the exhibition are Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Doors frontman Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain.
Following the recent and tragic death of actor Heath Ledger, who died at the age of 28 from an accidental overdose on sleeping pills in January of this year, the exhibition promises to be nothing less than an urgent plea for us to explore the reasons why so many young lives have ended prematurely, and consider why a life in the limelight can be such a vicious killer.
Forever 27 is running from 21st August to 9th November at the Proud Galleries.
