The movie isn't taking it self too seriously, its a humorous take on the super hero, very tongue in cheek, that said its explanation for our immortal heroes is sound, the only thing i would question is the chance meeting of these two predestined souls.

That could have been better handled. A line of dialog which questions the statistical chance of them meeting. eg the fact that he inhabit a region close to his soul mate, which limits the odds, then the amount of people he helps in a week or a year, or a decade, or a generation, all leading inevitable to his meeting. Or they might have gone in another direction, and had the fem hero do something to her mortal mate which catches resonates with Hancock when he spots it.

Had that element of chance been better manage the rest of the movie would have hung together. Incidentally i get the ending. The way attraction weakens them, makes them mortal, and separation, even as death makes them stronger. The movie is not like any other, not at all what you might expect, but that i see as its strength.

A story for all those who've lost sight of their true potential.

what a wierd film. i guess they are trying to do something different with the superhero genre, but what was potentially interesting about the film - Will Smith's character flaws & history - is swept aside with a ridiculous plot twist involving Theron, & cartoonish fight sequences. a film that can't make up its mind what it wants to be, and a load of turgid nonsense for the audience.

Hancock, which I finally got to see, is a self-indulgent star-vehicle for the cinema's most charismatic and attractive actors, Smith, supported by two wasted actors - the dynamic Thurlon and cute Bateman. A movie of schizophrenic confusion, that oozes just about as much relative plot as the Jack and Jill ditty, hides, unwittingly, a strangely funny sub-plot that is really all about Smith's character falling in love with lovable Bateman's turn. The CGI is wholly inept and stupid, and the violence extravagantly excessive and soulless. The homoeratic bed scene, where Smith attempts to undress Bateman, and the closetted homophobic utterances of Smith, which emphasises his closet dimension, seems to amplify that this movie is just one shoe away from Brokeback Mountain a-la-send-up! It was SO entertaining to see Smith unwittingly cast as a closet gay! I laughed all the way home! Well, it takes intellect to assess a movie like this.

I just finished watching one of the worst films ever. It was called 'Handjob' or 'Hancock' or something or nothing,
Watching this films was like having hot wax dripped onto your balls, but not in a pleasant way either.
It's clear to all that a long time ago the equation for making an American action film was formerly computed by the pencil necked gonad lovers of Hollywood, etc, and since then they have been endlessly churning out their same old patented sloppy garbage.
Recently, though, I've noticed that amazingly the standard of these films have plummeted still further into the depths of crapdom. Read no storyline, zero acting, same lame action sequences and a generous helping of gun crime, murder and genocide.
The truth is now clear to all and sundry that the film companies must be bankrolled by the arms manufacturers who fund these hour or so long adverts for their wares. In the same way that we witness one senseless murder after another, so the making of these films only serve their designed purpose. i.e, exporting violence, murder and gun crime to all corners of the planet.

Verdict: More cynical crud from the cock faces who make this kind of turdage.

I'm a big Will Smith fan, but this was one of the worst films for a long time. Nothing new at all - superhero - villain - reluctant love story etc etc.Boring. Not funny, not thrilling, not exciting. I wish I could've taken my money back.

I saw the movie and throughly enjoyed it. Subtext is what i look for and i found it in this movie. Something about the man without a memory of his greatness, awakening to his true potential. Or maybe it was about this man whose strength comes from his separateness and his pain, wallowing in despair and hopelessness, until someone better placed helps him to see his lost potential. Anti-hero or hero? The real battle starts first with self identity, and self worth. Great movie.

It was average, flat. I was never fully immersed in the story line, although there were a few little quirks in it. F.D, your reply was alot of truth as I myself live in N.Z and see alot of what they dont see.
