So, we can exclusively reveal the next LWLies cover film is Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, starring Aaron Johnson, which opens in the UK on Friday April 2.
Based on Mark Millar’s comic-book series, Kick-Ass is the story of Dave Lizewski. An otherwise ordinary New York City high school student, Dave’s only superpower is invisibility to girls, but when he takes his interest in comic books as inspiration to become a real-life superhero, Kick-Ass is born.
If you haven’t already, check out the trailer.

We’re asking you to take your favourite film and re-imagine it for us in the form of a comic, within a six-frame panel (download template files). That’s the whole film, condensed into six frames.
Instructions:
• All entries must be black and white. No grayscale may be used – we’re looking for a traditional comic book style. Please use whatever media you see fit.
• All entries should be sent to kickass@thechurchoflondon.com as 300dpi JPGs or Tiffs, full size, (all downloadable templates are the correct size) or they won’t be good enough quality to print in the magazine. If your finished artwork is too large to email, please use a file transfer site such as YouSendit.
• You must stick to our template exactly, not breaking down the boxes or altering the format.
• The brief is open to interpretation, so it can be literal or more skewed, if you prefer. So long as it tells the full story of one film, in a manner that would be pretty much coherent to someone who’d never seen it, we’re happy.
We’ll need your entries in at 6.00pm on Friday Febuary 12.

Be creative – be awesome – blow our minds. The best entry will make a full page in the front of the issue, while all the rest of our favourite entries will be made into a special 16 page digital edition of LWLies.
Any questions, email kickass@thechurchoflondon.com.

*** UPDATE ***
Q. You didn’t mention it, but are entries allowed to have word balloons, or is it just completely silent, sequential art?
A. Yes, please use balloons, sound effect type, whatever graphic devices you see fit!
Q. Also, the rules state no grayscaling. Does that include screentones/zip-a-tones that manga comics often utilize, or is that just referring to actual grayscaled tones (like in the Walking Dead comics)?
A. Screentones and zipatones are perfect.
If you have any questions about the brief, please post them in the comments below.
