Given that the tagline for the Notting Hill Film Festival is ‘It’s a British Thing’, it’s no surprise that the line up of screenings and events is dominated by mainstream and independent films from our fair land. The seventh annual festival is running until July 16, and got underway at the Kensington Odeon with a screening of Bananaz, the Gorillaz documentary directed by Ceri Levy, and Nick Moran’s Telstar followed by a Q&A with filmmaker and cast.
Every night has a special gala screening and Q&A for films including the excellent The Day After Peace, about the 10-year journey taken by award winning filmmaker Jeremy Gilley to establish a day of peace on September 21.
And The Beat Goes On will be receiving its UK premiere. The film follows British actor and DJ Jimi Mistry, as he explores Ibiza’s rich musical and spiritual history. It features candid interviews with superstar DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, Pete Tong, Danny Rampling and David Guetta.
Visitors to the festival will also be given a hands-on insight into making it in film, with seminars and Q&A sessions with stars throughout the day, allowing them to get answers to the questions that they’ve always wanted to ask, but never had the opportunity to.
