Next week, as part of their pre-Christmas schedule, BAFTA are hosting two very special events that we thought might put you in good spririts in the run up to this year’s holiday season.
On Monday December 7, as part of BAFTA’s ‘Life in Pictures’ strand, Mira Nair (pictured) will be the focus of an interview interspersed with clips from her own select filmography, followed by a Q&A session from guests. As well as discussing her latest movie Amelia, the acclaimed Indian filmmaker will be looking back over a three decade long career that has helped put Indian cinema on the map – with her breakthrough feature Salaam Bombay! and 2001’s Monsoon Wedding – respectively receiving BAFTA nominations for best foreign film.
Secondly on Wednesday December 9 BAFTA will be hosting a unique tribute event dedicated to the career of Douglas Slocombe, the award winning British cinematographer whose credits include Julia, The Lady Vanishes, and the original Indiana Jones trilogy. The event is part of a wider progamme that will consist of on-stage and video dedications from key industry luminaries, creating a living filmography in celebration of remarkable figures in British cinema.
Both events are to take place at 6:30pm at BAFTA HQ, Piccadilly, in the heart of London’s West End. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.bafta.org/whats-on/.
