Calling all East London dwellers (and the wider community of film lovers in general)! In 2006, local residents managed to get Hackney Council to shut down a nightclub called the Palace Pavillion, mainly because guys kept shooting each other outside.

Between 1910 and 1979, this amazing building had housed one of the UK’s most beautiful cinemas, and now there’s a campaign under way to re-open it in its former guise.

It’s currently occupied by squatters, which is a slight hitch, but The Friends of Clapton Cinematograph Theatre are currently trying to figure out how to rectify the situation. They’re going to be fundraising soon, but if you want to get involved in any way, check out their website and online petition.
