Film Knight 06
LWLies and Suso are proud to announce that Heavy Metal in Baghdad will be our feature screening on Monday September 08.
With a clear commitment to imagination, creativity and determination, Film Knights celebrates the best in modern movie making from big name directors to hungry young guns. This month sees us pitching tent at the splendidly plush Rex Cinema (view a map) in the heart of Soho. Film Knights is all about providing the best experience possible, and if that means crystal chandeliers and velvet sofas, then dammit, that’s what you’ll get.
Be there at 6.45pm prompt, then join us for a drink or two afterwards and stick around for the evening to let us know what you thought of the film.
The event is guest-listed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Heavy Metal in Baghdad
Rock and awe.

The story of Iraq’s only heavy metal band is a window into a country’s broken soul in this documentary based on an original Vice magazine article. Before the invasion of 2003, journalists Suroosh Alvi and Eddy Moretti had become fans of Acrassicauda – four young metal heads rocking Saddam’s Iraq; a country where head-banging was outlawed and bands were forced to write songs praising their leader.
But with the outbreak of war, life went from bad to worse. Rockets drop on practice spaces, gigs are threatened by bombers, and simply wearing a Western T-shirt can get you shot. When Alvi and Moretti returned to Iraq to find out what had happened to Acrassicauda, the story they uncovered stood for a generation in crisis and a country on the brink of total destruction.
Funny, inspiring and moving, Heavy Metal in Baghdad is an Iraq War film unlike any you have seen.
Heavy Metal in Baghdad is released in cinemas on September 12. Thanks to Slingshot Studios.
