A foppish English gent, an ensemble British cast and a dash of Americana was once sufficient when concocting a classic Brit comedy. If only there was someone at the helm of Death at a Funeral to stop it roaming into the genre doldrums of mediocre sub plots, impromptu nudity and faeces gags. Matthew Macfadyen plays master of ceremonies at a family funeral that digresses into a catastrophe of farcical events; all of which are best avoided.
