Yet more desperate grasping at career ballast from rent-a-babe Jessica Alba. Here she plays Sydney Wells, a blind violinist whose sight is restored when she receives a new pair of eyes, but – shock horror! – they used to belong to some mental Mexican lady, and now our foxy heroine is having weirdo flashbacks. If Alba really wants to make a name for herself as a Proper Actress then she should start by avoiding this kind of cookie-cutter genre rubbish. The Eye is a desperately unoriginal Sixth Sense meets The Ghost Whisperer knock-off that also manages to mine the tired cliché that blindness instils some sort of Daredevil-esque super sensory power. It’s feckless and bland, much like its leading lady.

It’s also a “desperately unoriginal… knock-off” in the sense that it is a Hollywood remake of the Pang brothers’ The Eye (2002) - which was one of the better Asian horrors of its day. The original has already spawned two Asian sequels, so we can probably expect a whole reimagined American franchise to follow, with all the diminishing returns that such a concept implies…

Jessica Alba should get together with Josh Hartnett - a man of sparkling wit, and the finest actor of his generation.

Don’t taint Hartnett with the Alba brush.

Hi Anton
I missed The Eye when I managed to confuse it with My Little Eye. I spent the whole time watching this crap pseudo-snuff movie while being confused at the fact that everybody was American.
Another fascinating but true story…
