Horror in devolution: from Dawn Of The Dead to Shaun Of The Dead to Dawn Of The Dead. At least, that would have been a cuter title for Evil Alien’s Brit director Jake West’s abortive ‘zombird’ horror-comedy. Arriving at a village in the arse end of England to rediscover their ‘inner bloke’, a group of London lads instead discover they’re under attack from an army of man-eating undead hags.

Fleshy premise, then, for a no-budget splat-‘em-up. And somehow, Doghouse has suckered in a rather eye-catching cast: Public Enemies star Stephen Graham, Adulthood director/actor/writer Noel Clarke and Danny ‘Faackin’ slaaag!’ Dyer. Okay, so the last one’s not so surprising. But there’s little any of them can do with the script, which aims for a bloody autopsy of the gender-war but comes up shorter than a Liliputian dwarf. Nothing cute, sexy, smart, scary or funny to be found here. Consider that a divorce.

Anticipation:

More British horror with Danny Dyer. Hurray! Anticipation Score

Enjoyment:

Nowhere near as effective as it needs to be. Enjoyment Score

In Retrospect:

Doghouse, indeed. In Retrospect Score

  • I cannot comprehend why this film or that other one – that's exactly the same with the unfunny fat/thin double act was made, why? Where the money came from (when dozens of films can't get finance) or why on earth someone as good as Stephen Graham would be in it and then allow Danny Dyer to have top billing over him?
Not that top billing in this would be any good anyhow, but still.

  • Just watched the movie, and it is a total stinker, stephen graham has the best line in the whole film,
It looks like it was shot by a group of amateurs no real story crap ending.
But a great cast they will be kicking themselves in years to come.
It is by far the worst film of its kind i have ever seen.
